Storylining with Ros na Rún

Then this is your chance!

Course Profile:

Ros na Rún, the Irish language serial drama, and Gréasán na Meán Skillnet, are delighted to announce this story telling and story writing course, with an opportunity to join the Ros na Rún story team in the future. The lucky participants will be tutored by two of Ros na Rún’s most senior story writers, Anne Learmont  and Ailbhe Nic Giolla Bhríghde. Both writers have been developing and writing stories for the long running serial drama since it first aired in 1996.

If you’re interested in storytelling and writing storylines, and you’re familiar with Ros na Rún, it’s world and characters, then this is the course for you. This course will cover all aspects of story creation, development and storyline writing for a serial drama.

During the first weekend, the following topics, amongst others, will be covered:

·      The Ros na Rún story process

·      The story room

·      Creating and developing stories

·      What makes an good story?

·      Story types, plots and themes

·      Ros na Rún Characters – Their  wants and needs

·      Writing a storyline

 

During this part of the course, participants will write up and discuss stories. They will work both individually and in groups.

After the first part of the course, the participants will be assigned a task, to write up their own story, to an agreed deadline. After this story will be submitted, the participants will have a second session with Anne and Ailbhe a few weeks later, to discuss and receive feedback on their work. These feedback sessions will take place remotely, on Zoom, at an agreed time between the participant and the tutors.

Requirements:

-       An interest in storytelling/story writing and television drama

-       A knowledge of Ros na Run and their characters

-       Experience isn’t essential but would be an advantage

Dates: 25 & 26 February ’23

Location: An Chuasnóg, Baile Árd, An Spidéal, Co. na Gaillimhe

Time :             Saturday - 9.30a.m - 4.00p.m

                        Sunday – 10.00a.m – 5.30p.m

 

Part 2

Dates:             TBC – With the tutors and participants

Location:        On Zoom

Time:             Feedback session- Half day per individual/group
